Online Couples Therapy in Ontario
Conflict doesn't have to be the norm. Closeness is still possible.
Couples therapy that helps you break the cycles keeping you apart, talk without it turning into a fight, and feel close again. Virtual, low-cost couples therapy is available for teens and adults anywhere in Ontario.
When did distance become the default?
Your relationship was built on trust, intimacy, and connection, but somewhere along the way, that started to change. The stress, exhaustion, and demands of life crept in, and they changed how you communicate, how you respond, and how you turn toward each other. Now you can be in the same room and feel miles apart.
You’ve tried date nights, talking it out at midnight, and promising to do better this week. It holds for a few days, then the wall goes back up. You catch yourself wondering, “When did we stop being a team? Is this fixable, or is this just what we are now?”
Couples therapy at Resolvve helps you understand what put those defences up, learn to lower them and rebuild a relationship where you both feel seen, secure, and loved.
- Small conversations that somehow end in yelling, tears, or a slammed door
- Anxiety when a hard topic comes up
- One of you chasing the conversation while the other shuts down, freezes, or walks out
- A breach of trust you can't get past, no matter how hard you try
- Loneliness that sits with you even when your partner is right there
- Old wounds, family history, or extended family pressure bleeding into every fight
Couples therapy helps you soften your responses and feel like a team again.

Why Couples Therapy?
This is where you stop fighting each other and start fighting for the relationship.
Every couple hits rough patches, but when a breach of trust, misunderstanding, or a lack of mutual respect becomes normal, it can take over everything. Couples therapy helps you understand what’s pulling you apart, respond to each other differently, and build a relationship led more by trust than by self-protection.
At Resolvve, online couples therapy in Ontario starts with both of you, then a session with each partner individually, so we understand how your own history and triggers feed into the dynamic between you. Together, we set goals, lower the defences that are keeping you guarded, and use approaches like EFT, Gottman therapy, and ACT to get you from where you are to where you want to be.
Resolvve has supported more than 600 clients and completed over 5,000 affordable therapy sessions. Our team is here to help you feel more grounded and in control of your life.

How Our Couples Therapy Works

We See You as a Couple First
We start with both of you together to understand what's happening in the relationship, what brought you here, and what you each want to be different. Whether it's an affair, constant conflict, or a slow drift apart, we get the full picture before we make a plan.

We Meet With Each of You Individually
Next, we sit down with each partner one-on-one. This is where we get curious about your own history, triggers, and needs, and start building the self-awareness that lets you show up differently with your partner.

We Come Back Together to Do the Work
From there, we meet as a couple for the rest of the work, adjusting as we go. You'll practice asking curious questions instead of placing blame, staying regulated when things get heated, and meeting each other's needs in ways that really land.

Couples Therapy FAQs
Will couples therapy actually help, or is it a waste of time?
Our couples therapists are trained to help partners work through their differences and rebuild their relationship. If you apply the tools you learn in therapy, you’ll gain clarity and insight into the problems you’re facing, and start to build a closer, more meaningful relationship.
How soon can I get an appointment?
In most cases, we’re able to book you in for a consultation within a week, sometimes sooner. There’s no waitlist to get started.
Will the therapist take my partner's side?
No. The therapy we provide focuses on how the factors affecting each of you feed back into the relationship dynamic. It’s less “he said, she said,” and more about understanding yourself and your partner so you can work through what you’re facing together. The therapist doesn’t take sides, though in some cases one partner may have more work to do to meet the other’s needs.
Will every therapy session involve my partner?
Couples therapy involves a mix of both. You’ll have sessions together as a couple, and sessions where each of you meets with the therapist individually. Both are part of the process.
How long does it take to feel better?
Many couples feel a little better the moment they start working with a therapist. On average, research suggests it takes eight to ten sessions to restructure the habits that feed into unhealthy relationship dynamics. Depending on your situation, some couples notice major improvements sooner.
Does online couples therapy work?
Yes. Research shows online couples therapy can be just as effective as meeting in person, and the proven approaches we use, like EFT, Gottman therapy, and ACT, translate well to video. A lot of couples find it easier to open up from their own space, where their defenses tend to come down faster than they would in an unfamiliar office.
Do I need to be married to come to couples therapy?
No. We work with couples at every stage, whether you’re dating, engaged, common-law, married, or somewhere in between. If you’re in a relationship and are looking for healing, restoration, or simply a deeper connection, couples therapy can help.
What if my partner doesn't want to come to therapy?
This is more common than you’d think, and it doesn’t have to be a dealbreaker. You’re welcome to start on your own and work on your side of the dynamic, which often shifts things at home. Many partners who were hesitant at first decide to join once they see it isn’t about being blamed. A free consultation is a low-pressure way to feel it out together.
Is couples therapy covered by insurance?
It depends on your plan. Many extended health plans in Ontario cover sessions with a registered psychotherapist or social worker, though some cover individual therapy only. We offer direct billing whenever possible, and we can reach out to your provider on your behalf to help you sort out your coverage before you start.
What do we need for an online session?
Not much. A private space where you won’t be interrupted, a reliable internet connection, and a device with a camera and mic. Most couples find a laptop or tablet easier than a phone, since the bigger screen makes it simpler to stay present with each other and the therapist.
